What were the challenges, and how did we come up with a solution?

The Westfield Shopping Centre in London is one of the largest city-centre shopping centres in Europe – a complex ‘city within a city’ that accommodates a range of uses and attracts high visitor numbers.

The challenge here was to provide clear directions and intuitive visitor guidance within this complex space. Information and navigation systems had to be integrated into the design, all carefully considered in terms of their functionality and capable of withstanding long-term use. Through the targeted use of solid surface material, we created precise, durable elements that blend into the overall architectural concept and facilitate the provision of guidance and information for users.

What steps had to be taken to achieve this?

The technical design for the information and reception elements were based on the draft concept and then optimised in terms of design. Next, we produced the three-dimensional components from solid surface material and integrated functional components such as storage space and digital information units.

The elements were provided ready for assembly and installed in a way that would meet the requirements of a busy shopping centre in terms of both design and functionality.
