Sculptural seating with an organic public presence

The extraordinary scale and complex geometry made this project particularly challenging. Spanning a total length of 65 metres, more than 7,000 individual slats form a flowing, organic seating sculpture in a public space.

The precise execution of the curved lines called for absolute dimensional accuracy during the planning, cutting and logistics stages. At the same time, the material had to be able to withstand the demanding conditions of a busy urban square over the long term – by being resilient to both weather and wear and tear.

The key to the project’s successful implementation was the precise digital processing of the geometric data and accurate waterjet cutting of all the components. The result was a durable, sculptural piece of street furniture created from around 1,100 square metres of quartz material, combining technical precision with compelling design.

Based on the architectural design, Rosskopf + Partner took care of all technical development aspects of the project. This included preparing all the manufacturing documentation and carefully converting the design data into detailed drawings ready for production.

The next step involved fine-tuning the material properties of the Technistone® quartz material used, in the custom colour light grey. All the elements were cut using waterjet technology.

Quality and dimensional checks were carried out continuously throughout the manufacturing process.
