Seating Islands for Shopping City South Vienna
A special interplay of light, form and material awaits visitors to Shopping City Süd (SCS) in Vienna.
The site, built in 1975, was completely renovated by ATP Architects and Engineers (Vienna) in an integral planning process over a period of four years, mostly during ongoing operation. Work was completed in 2013. The facades were thermally adapted, entrances, retail and catering areas were redesigned. Additional skylight strips bring more daylight into the mall. Visually, the SCS today presents itself young, fresh and in organic shapes and colours. This is especially true of the three seating areas made of solid surface material, which invite you to take a rest in the centre of the shopping city. Rosskopf + Partner is also responsible for the production of the semi-circular curved fairings here.
The floral patterns on the outside of each seat niche are an absolute eye-catcher: The motifs consist of over 9,400 pixels of different sizes, which Rosskopf + Partner has milled into the solid surface with millimetre precision. Due to the translucency of the material, the grid can be effectively set in scene with the green LED lights behind it.
