Rolling Library
The first solid surface material on wheels: We designed and developed the first rolling library on behalf of the city of Heilbronn. The idea came into being when the city of Heilbronn had to renew its existing travelling book library for elementary schools, day-care centres and to provide bookmobile service in the district, which had been on the road throughout the entire city since 1981.
The Stuttgart-based design agency, LINIE ZWEII, was therefore commissioned to design a new bookmobile to meet the changing requirements of the current media society in terms of both exterior and interior design. The result is ROBI, the rolling library with moving elements and a design that makes a difference. The supporting shelving system made of white solid surface material HIMACS S28 Alpine White and S302 Opal can be seen as an end-to-end design idea. The shelves begin in the entrance as in a classic room that is strictly geometrically parallel, but they then dissipate toward the so-called experience area into a free network. The resulting lines of the shelves are then transformed on the outer surfaces in the form of quotation marks. On the inside, reading mats and seating cubes in bright red colours invite visitors to linger a while.
