Translucency is defined as the partial light transmission though objects, bodies and substances that are also referred to as being partially- or semi-transparent. Especially innovative materials, such as solid surface materials (e.g. HI-MACS® Hausys by LG or Corian® by DuPont), make them useful for employment in progressive trends in architecture and design.
The use of completely transparent materials, such as glass, has a long tradition in architectural history. The limits in the dematerialisation of building construction have been sufficiently exhausted. In contemporary architecture, translucent materials enable natural lighting from the outside to the interior while, at the same time, accenting the materiality of the outer shell.
The precision game with the permeability of materials in terms of light also enables them to be utilized in interior design. Objects made of translucent materials present themselves as substantially lighter and enable differentiated variations in their transparency. Detailed solutions, such as customized relief milling, expand the aesthetic scope for additional interesting modifications.
To be able to offer sophisticated solutions for translucent products is, on the one hand, an offer of high quality and appropriate materials, and on the other hand, all-encompassing substantial expertise in processing them. Rosskopf & Partner offers both at a very high level of competence.
In particular, the solid surface material HI-MACS® by LG Hausys, but also other materials from Rosskopf & Partner’s range of products are the ideal materials for developing customized elements for both indoor and outdoor areas. The necessary technical equipment for lighting in the interior, such as controls or hardware, is delivered in its entirety by Rosskopf & Partner. Conventional light sources or LED-lighting can also be securely and discreetly integrated into translucent objects. For the installation of substructures, special object-orientated solutions are, of course, also possible.
In the field of aesthetics and design, Rosskopf & Partner offers long-established experience in interdisciplinary teamwork with designers, artists and architects. A wide horizon of aesthetic experience, the capability to implement progressive ideas and a high degree of precision in technical design are factors that make Rosskopf & Partner the ideal partner for innovative concepts.
An especially impressive example of previous projects from this field is Christian Liaigre’s illuminated bar counter in the design hotel Puerta América in Madrid, which was manufactured entirely by Rosskopf & Partner.
