HI-MACS® by LG Hausys Tested for Medical Applications

On their own initiative, Rosskopf & Partner AG submitted the solid surface material HI-MACS® for the performance of a biocompatibility test for cytotoxic potential according to ISO 10933-5:2009 at the Fraunhofer Institute for Boundary Surfaces and Biochemical Engineering.

Survey Background

Whether a medical product is in contact with the human body permanently, for a lengthy period of time, or only for a short time, it must be certified, among other requirements, for biocompatibility according to the Medical Device Act. Using "in vitro cytotoxicity tests" of cells, the suitability of materials for use as a medical devices can be tested. Especially for this application, the solid surface material HI-MACS® was testedin the colours S28 Alpine White and G34 Arctic Granite.

Results

For the extraction used in the test, it was proven that the samples had no cytotoxic potential and, therewith,could not harm tissue cells. Thus, solid surface material HI-MACS® in the colours S28 Alpine White and G34 Arctic Granite can be used for the manufacture of medical products.
