Architect: hg merz architekten, Delugan Meissl A much-quoted statement by Ferdinand Porsche says that this is the car he was looking for, but couldn’t find, so he built it himself. The Porsche Museum in Stuttgart-Zuffenhausen translates this idea into architecture. The spectacular museum building is a testimonial that condensed all facets of the Porsche brand into an architectural concentrate and allowed the seemingly impossible to become possible.
The extravagant building is an intelligent exhibition concept that represents the company and its brand at many levels. With the architectural concept, feasibility limitations have been exceeded, and the exhibition itself presents the success story of the sports car manufacturer in all its complexity.
The concept of the exhibition was developed by the renowned Stuttgart museum designers, hg merz architects, and is based on the idea of a “rolling museum” – the vehicles could actually leave the museum at any time to be used on the road. The museum houses a flexible collection, which gives it the characteristic of potential continuous movement. In a congenial way, the flexibility in Porsche’s company business and the dynamic charisma of legendary sports cars are found here in the exhibition architecture itself.
The chronology of the company history and vehicle production is presented through appropriate exhibits. The ingenious linking of theme arrangements and ideas makes the fascination of the Porsche brand both feasible and a gratifying experience.
That the museum is an architectural work of art and, at the same time, the presentation of an outstanding permanent collection, which is also in perfect congruence with the interior of the museum is the result of flawless teamwork. Architects, engineers, museum designers, and all others involved, managed the project in a clearly skilful manner to achieve an impressive and clearly apparent success.
Rosskopf & Partner, among the most innovative specialists for high quality surfaces in Europe and a veteran with many years of experience and world-class engineering capabilities, participated in the interior design of the Porsche Museum. The Rosskopf & Partner Corporation was once again able to substantiate its position as a significant capacity in the processing of solid surface materials.
